In the spring of 2015, having previously played together in other groups, the four members of SORA String Quartet gathered in a small Brooklyn apartment to read Schumann’s A minor quartet, and quickly developed deep friendships and a shared commitment to explore, rehearse and perform the immense canon of string quartet repertoire. Since then, SORA has staged performances of romantic, contemporary and new works in venues throughout New York City. SORA has received coaching and guidance from Adela Pena, Giora Schmidt, Ron Carbone and Eriko Sato. Recent engagements include a performance and teaching residency at Endicott College’s Summer String Music Festival, an installation performance of John Cage's String Quartet in Four Parts for Fashion Week's unveiling of Jae Rhim Lee's sustainable mushroom burial suit at the NY Ace Hotel, a world premiere of Scott Wollschleger's Hollow City, and a performance (with images) of Giovanni Koll’s original arrangement of a 1930’s silent movie score. SORA's concerts are donation-only.
